Pentecost on the shores of
the Tanganyika

For the day of
Pentecost we flew to the city of Kalemie which is situated
on the shores of the large lake called Tanganyika. We taught
a seminar on the Holy Spirit to pastors and workers in that
area, which is situated at the farthest east portion
of Katanga province. This whole region has for many years been
in the hold of rebels who have burnt churches, hymnals, and
Bibles. The majority of the pastors had but one request:
send us Bibles in Swahili. We're asking you to help us to
equip these pastors with the Word of God. How can a pastor
prepare a good message when he doesn't have his own Bible?
We have baptised this project "100 Bibles for the Bibleless" (a
play on words in French). We would like to fly in a hundred
Bibles for a total cost of about $1200.00 Cdn.(cost plus
shipping). Thank-you in advance for your generosity.

The
Tanganyika is enormous and gives you the impression of being
on the shores of the ocean. The mountains which we see in
the photo on the left are in Tanzania. In Kalemie, the main
activity is fishing, and there is a huge quantity of fish.
Every day that the water is calm, the fishermen leave to
earn their living.

We have been
an encouragement to these pastors, and at each meeting there
was a choir that sang. The resources in this area are
meager. Yet even so, they honoured us by giving us a goat
and some pigeons. Yes, these were to eat. Marielle
succeeded in saving the pigeons. But the goat made a
delicious meal for the pastors. Everywhere we go we are an
attraction for the children who call out "Musungu," which
means "a white." It's in the name of the Lord and in your
name that we want to be a blessing to the people of
Katanga. Aksanti sana!
