Since September 10th, we have been in Pretoria,
South Africa following five weeks of intensive
missionary training. Our Canadian missionaries,
Gerald and Patricia Golbeck, lead this program
in French called "Mission, Exposition, et
Transformation" (Missions Exposure and
Training). Twice a year, 20 pastors and church
leaders from all over Africa meet with the goal
of helping to lead their churches and movements
in missions. There are participants from the
Democratic Republic of Congo, Congo
(Brazzaville), Cameroon, and myself and Marielle
from Canada. We have been exposed to different
teachings, subjects and ways to do missions. I
had the privilege of teaching a session called
"How to lead your local church in missions".

We visited
Hindu and Buddhist temples, mosques, and
different evangelical churches some having more
than 10,000 members. We also went to Durban, a
city on the Indian Ocean which has a strategic
port for all of Africa. In this region called
Kwazulu Natal, we visited the Kwasizabantu
mission which has been developing its natural
resources with the goal of financing its own
missionary work. They sell water from their own
natural spring, and grow fruit like avocados and
vegetables like green peppers. They make boards
and bricks and even windows for their own
buildings. The mission sees thousands of
visitors each year who, if they so desire, can
have free lodging and meals. It was very
impressive.
We
will be back at the Bible college in
Lubumbashi for the opening of the academic
year on October 15th. That will be the same
day that we celebrate our 30th wedding
anniversary. Thank you, Lord, for your
faithfulness.
